"This program has certainly helped me to experience a teacher’s role. I got to learn a lot. The various cognitive methods to grasp the concepts and to take over to the students was quite a value addition. The program has certainly helped spark curiosity in me and I try and look for science in the things around whenever I find time. I really do hope that we have imparted value into the students’ life through this program."

“…this was a completely new experience for me. I have learned a lot from this experience: to structure a class, to understand the level of details that needs to be specified while teaching a concept, to manage my time properly, and most important of all, I have learnt patience. I have also come to cherish the fruits of teaching someone and see them succeed at that…”

- Sriram Krishnamurthy, PhD Scholar, Dept of Chemical Engineering, IIT Madras

“…Teaching students to teach is something I have never done before. So, it was a very good learning experience. During the school visits, I learnt how to deliver in a much simpler way. During the online teaching sessions, my time management definitely got better. spending time to mentor the students taught me a lot of patience. It gave me a sense of happiness that I learnt a lot about a different approach to teaching Mathematics…”

- Raja Murugan, PhD Scholar, Department of Biotechnology, IIT Madras

Mentoring duration: June 2018 to Oct 2020

..My experience is too immense with children. I must mention it as a challenge to teach school kids where n number of doubts should be answered in a most simplified manner. This experience has improved my thinking quotient. Though many of us have social concerns and thought of helping society, we may not find a valid platform to do so. The 1Lab-1School project is a great way to invest our time and skills to help the rural school children. This kind of initiatives are much needed for the society..."

- K N Ashwin, PhD Scholar, Dept of Applied Mechanics, IIT Madras

Mentoring Duration: June 2018 to March 2020

“…My experience with Teach To Learn was quite amazing. The school trips in the 1Lab- 1School project helped us (labmates) interact more and get to know each other, which is a rarity in a monotonous research life. The visits also gave me an opportunity to witness young talents in our own government schools. The 'C minus 4' project turned out to be my favourite! This was more of mentoring than just teaching. I must confess I did not know the working of some everyday devices before my association with Teach to Learn. I learnt a lot by way of teaching, and felt content in helping rural school kids…”

-Venkataraman N V, Project Officer, Dept of Chemical Engineering, IIT Madras

Mentoring duration: June 2019 to Oct 2020

"It was a great opportunity to teach the school kids through the 1Lab-1School program. To be honest, it was not as easy as we thought in the beginning. While as a researcher, we study or analyse things at a higher level, teaching science topics to school kids is a completely different scenario. We had to go to their level and start thinking from their point of view. ... The most challenging part was to keep the students engaged throughout the day. As teachers, we need to give them a space so that they can feel confident to ask anything in the class. In my opinion, this is a great learning we had throughout the visits."

- Tapas Das, PhD Scholar, Department of Ocean Engineering, IIT Madras

Mentoring Duration: June 2019 to Mar 2020

“…I enjoyed being a part of these initiatives to give my part to the society in some way. I am happy to share that being a part of T2L has given me a push to work more towards the betterment of the needy, especially to educate the children who cannot afford. This is my first experience of teaching school children. Although I knew the concepts, explaining to the kids in an understandable way was a challenge. The ‘C minus 4’ online teaching was a different experience compared to ‘1Lab-1School’ visits. Here, the students worked really hard and were motivating us to give them better. This process helped me gain more knowledge, to simplify things and deliver it in a better way. Although there were hiccups in between, the overall experience was satisfying when you see how the kids transitioned…”

- Gayathri G, PhD Scholar, Dept of Biotechnology, IIT Madras

Mentoring duration: June 2018 to Oct 2020

“…it was exciting to be part of the program… during every visit, students asked exciting questions which made me see things differently…my presentations style changed and delivery of content improved significantly. Teaching the children made me patient and improved my time management, communication and teachings, skills. It also boosted my feel for social responsibility. Though physically teaching a full day made me tired, students’ enthusiasm and personal satisfaction motivated me to keep going. The satisfaction that I got through transferring my knowledge to young minds is immeasurable…”
